P1 to introduce LTE technology

PACKET One Networks Malaysia Sdn Bhd (P1), Malaysia’s leading fourth generation (4G) broadband provider, hopes to introduce the LTE (long-term evolution) technology in Malaysia by next year.

Its chief executive officer, Michael Lai, said P1 has submitted a detailed business plan to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and was waiting for the green light to roll out LTE technology.

3G supports voice communications while LTE supports voice, data and content technology.

“The company plans to start a trial run of LTE by year-end.

“The decision to roll out LTE will also depend on when the other major operators in the Asia, namely from China and India, commence commercial operations of LTE,” he said at a media briefing on P1’s LTE aspirations at Port Dickson today.
