San Diego’s Petco Park gets DAS network

CommScope Inc. supplied a Distributed Antenna System in San Diego’s Petco Park, bringing better wireless service to the venue. CommScope said a Tier-One wireless operator requested the DAS network.
“Sporting events bring together tens of thousands of people, many of whom want to check scores via mobile web, send text messages, share photos, or call loved ones back home using their mobile devices,” said Matt Melester, senior VP and GM, Wireless Innovations, CommScope. “That many people using increasingly bandwidth-hungry services can overwhelm cellular networks unless there are dedicated solutions like ours in place.”
Operators and venue owners increasingly are deploying DAS networks to better handle data traffic at stadiums and arenas.
CommScope deployed its ION-B DAS system, which is part of its Andrew Solutions RF Applications portfolio and can support everything from Wi-Fi to traditional cellular technologies.
