Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) officially has a new CFO on the job starting today as the carrier said outgoing CFO Bob Brust has retired and incoming CFO Joseph Euteneuer has joined the team. Sprint Nextel originally announced the succession plan late last year.
Euteneuer joins Sprint Nextel just days after the closing of CenturyLink Inc.’s acquisition of his former employer Qwest Communications International Inc. where he served as EVP and CFO. Euteneuer, who will be based out of Overland Park, Kan., previously served as EVP and CFO at XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. until it merged in 2008 with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. That history of working for companies that are soon acquired could provide an interesting back drop for his new position at Sprint Nextel.
