Girl Scouts of America come out with iPhone app

As if it wasn’t enough to have the girl scouts cajoling cookie sales out of you at home, they can now get to you via your mobile phone too.

Girl Scouts of America has officially announced the release of its USA Cookie Finder for iPhone or iPod Touch – because that’s the phone the biggest suckers use, apparently.

The app may be free, but that doesn’t mean the Thin Mints, Lemonades, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Shout Outs, Samoas, and all the other Girl Scout Cookies in your area or around the nation are. But it’s free to find them, and might avoid the annoyance of having a four foot midget in a uniform showing up on your doorstep.

It’s probably also pretty handy if you get the munchies and need to find the nearest underage cookie sellers pronto. All search results are apparently easy to sort and view, with listings sorted by date, radius, or pinpointed on a map.

“The app includes the most comprehensive information available and contains cookie sale data from around the country, including the start and end of local cookie sales,” boasts the app, as precociously as a trumped up 12 year old.

The girl scouts are apparently “in the midst of a huge technological transformation,” according to Jamie Joyce – vice president of interactive marketing for the Girl Scouts. “By releasing this app we are more efficiently connecting customers to girls,” she added. Hmmm, good thing the girl scouts have chaperones.

New York based digital firm StudioE9 designed the cookie finding app, which can also be used on social networking sites, just in case you want to post cookie sale locations to Twitter, Facebook, or email your friends.

You can also vote for your favorite cookie or “Bookmark” upcoming cookie sales.
