AUSTIN, Texas—SouthbySouthwest, that quirky music show that is morphing into an important play for companies in the wireless space, is back with a vengeance this year in Austin, Texas. The show’s interactive sessions actually were bigger than the music and film sessions in 2010, and we expect the same this year.
Wireless companies like Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T Inc., IBM Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. are exhibiting at this year’s event, perhaps in part because of the growing developer community that attends the event, and the continuing fast pace of over-the-top providers – and nearly everything else digital – focusing on the mobile aspect of their businesses. The contrast between SXSW and other conventions can be seen in the phrase that describes SXSW: attendees call it a festival.
The show continues to evolve, noted by GroupFlier CEO Morris Panner, with a new session next Friday and Saturday that marries fashion and technology, called Styleby.
