Taiwan’s telecommunications industry continues to gather steam on the back of strong global demand for personal mobile devices, the Industry and Technology Intelligence Services said Feb. 18.
According to the latest report from the state-backed research body, output in the local sector increased 19.6 percent year on year to NT$1.21 trillion (US$41.11 billion) in 2010.
Further breakdown revealed that mobile devices, such as handsets and telematics products, registered the strongest annual gain at 37.42 percent to reach NT$507.2 billion, accounting for the lion’s share of industry growth with 41.8 percent.
Telecommunications services came in second with a 30.4-percent weighting, inching up by 1.5 percent year on year, while network equipment, at 27.8 percent of the total, saw its output up by 19.5 percent over 2009.
