MetroPCS joins RCA

The Rural Cellular Association gained its largest member today as regional operator MetroPCS Communications Inc. (PCS) has joined the trade association.
The move provides RCA with the nation’s No. 5 operator and the largest carrier outside of the four nationwide operators. MetroPCS served more than 8 million customers at the end of 2010.
As part of the move, MetroPCS’ EVP, general counsel and secretary Mark Stachiw has joined RCA’s board of directors.
“We are delighted that MetroPCS has joined RCA and that Mark Stachiw has been appointed to our board of directors,” said RCA President and CEO Steven Berry. “As a leader in the transition to 4G LTE networks, we look forward to having MetroPCS join our continued initiative to ensure that all Americans, no matter where they live or travel, have access to the latest, most advanced broadband services and devices. Many issues such as allocation of additional spectrum, data roaming, interoperability throughout the 700 MHz spectrum, and USF are yet to be decided upon by policymakers, and a strong RCA membership will certainly enhance our voice in Washington.”
