Skype announced a mobile partner program for operators in markets with low 3G broadband penetration. The program aims to bring the Skype experience to a broad range of mobile users and will enable carriers to differentiate their offerings in a competitive market environment. This program follows the successful operator partnerships that Skype has already launched with Verizon, KDDI and Hutchison 3.

The Weather Channel announced a new ad-supported version of its popular weather application for the Android platform now available on the Android Market. The Weather Channel for Android adds new features – voice search, type-ahead and an all-new navigation bar among others.

Bharti Infratel, a subsidiary of Bharti airtel and one of the world’s largest telecom passive infrastructure providers has selected IBM to provide Intelligent Site Operations to more than 32,000 Bharti Infratel tower-sites spread across 11 telecom circles in India.

Powerwave Technologies Inc., provider of end-to-end advanced wireless solutions, announced the new LTE ultra-broadband Powerwave Picocell, which delivers up to 15 times greater overall system capacity at a much lower cost and complexity than adding standard macro cells to address “sore spots” of high data usage or weak signals in wireless networks. The product debuted at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

GENBAND, developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, announced the GENBAND Mobile Edge Optimization Suite as an enhancement to the P Series of traffic and policy management solutions. GENBAND has introduced the P Series Mobile Edge Optimization Suite to manage network traffic by relieving signaling overload caused by smart devices and mobile data congestion.

Mobile software company, 1st Touch, has joined Motorola Solutions, as a Partner Select Authorised ISV. 1st Touch will advise its social housing and local authority clients on sustainable mobile workforce solutions utilising the Motorola ES400 running Microsoft Windows Embedded technology. 1st Touch was recently appointed a partner for this technology by Microsoft.
