Quepasa appoints Lars Fuhrken-Batista to board of directors

QuePasa | February 10, 2011 | Press Release

WEST PALM BEACH, FL–(Marketwire – February 10, 2011) – Quepasa Corporation (NYSE Amex:QPSA), creator and operator of Quepasa.com, the popular online social network and gaming platform for the Latino community, has appointed Lars Fuhrken-Batista as a director of the company.

Batista, a Brazilian native, brings to Quepasa a wealth of relevant experience in gaming and a broad base of experience in the developing Brazilian Internet market — areas key to Quepasa’s strategic direction.

Batista, 39, spent 15 years working in publishing, management, design, production and licensing of video game titles, having begun his professional career at Los Angeles-based Activision as a production coordinator in 1995. In 2000, Batista re-launched legendary videogame brand, Cinemaware, and re-released new versions of its famous game franchises, including Defender of the Crown.

Batista was introduced to Quepasa via publicly-traded Ideiasnet (BOVESPA: IDNT3.SA) (www.ideiasnet.com), Brazil’s largest venture fund focused on technology, media, and telecom, where he is a member of its board of advisors.

Batista currently serves as the director of information and computer technology (ICT) at the EBX Group (www.ebx.com.br), Brazil’s largest private infrastructure and natural resources investment holding company, with investments in oil and gas, mining, energy, ports and logistics, shipyards, and real estate. As head of EBX’s technology initiatives, Batista oversees EBX’s ICT infrastructure and new technology investments.

“We’re confident Lars will make a substantial contribution as a director of Quepasa, particularly given his extensive knowledge and relationships within the worldwide gaming market and particularly in Brazil,” said John C. Abbott, CEO of Quepasa. “He is a wonderful addition to our board of directors and rounds out the skill sets of our board with his specific geographic and domain experience.”

Batista commented: “This is certainly an exciting time to join Quepasa, which has demonstrated tremendous audience growth throughout Latin America. With its recent agreement to acquire the Brazilian social game development studio, XtFt Games, I believe Quepasa is well-positioned to become a leading social game developer, publisher and distributor within the Latin American market.”

Quepasa recently reported its membership base increased by a record 2.32 million in January 2011 to total more than 29.5 million registered users. The site also generated a record 17.6 million unique visits in January, up from 16.4 million unique visits in December. Page views increased more than 214 million page views in January, as compared to 184 million in the previous month.
