AT&T | January 18, 2011 | Press Release

DALLAS, Jan. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — AT&T* today announced that the Mexican telecommunications service provider Telmex will offer its customers in Mexico improved, seamless telepresence services by providing them access to the AT&T Business Exchange, a feature of AT&T Telepresence Solution®. The AT&T Business Exchange enables telepresence users to connect to telepresence sites either within or outside their own enterprises allowing “face to face” collaboration during telepresence sessions.

The improved global access to telepresence services will allow Telmex customers to have unique “in-person” experiences of interaction and collaboration with other companies across multiple locations worldwide. Telmex customers in Mexico will be able to connect to AT&T Telepresence Solution® customers. AT&T Telepresence Solution® is currently available from 75 countries and territories worldwide, with plans to add other countries in the future.

“We are very proud to provide our customers access to telepresence rooms around the world, further improving the way they can connect with colleagues, employees, customers, suppliers and partners worldwide through a face-to-face experience with the set-up simplicity of a conference call,” said Isidoro Ambe, Chief Executive, Telmex Corporate and Global Services. “We chose to work with AT&T for its proven networking expertise delivering managed telepresence services to global customers.”

By combining the proven capabilities of Telmex and the AT&T Business Exchange with Cisco TelePresence® technology, Telmex is now able to deliver to its customers in Mexico a fully-managed, scalable, highly-secure and reliable environment for employees and customers who want a face-to-face experience without the time and expense of business travel.

“We are pleased to support Telmex in helping its customers to be better connected through the rapidly growing and increasingly popular global telepresence ecosystem available through the AT&T Business Exchange, which enables companies of all sizes to meet and collaborate in multiple locations worldwide while feeling as if they were all in the same room together,” said Kathryn Morrissey, executive vice president, Wholesale and GEM (Government, Education and Medical) Solutions, AT&T Corp.

Telepresence brings benefits to any company looking for an alternative to expensive and time consuming travel to meetings. It saves time and cost as well as having benefits to the environment by helping businesses make choices that may reduce their carbon emissions.

According to a new study of large companies using telepresence technology, U.S. and U.K. businesses that substitute some business travel with telepresence can cut CO2 emissions by nearly 5.5 million metric tons in total – the greenhouse gas equivalent of removing more than one million passenger vehicles from the road for one year – and achieve total economy-wide financial benefits of almost $19 billion, by 2020. The study, “The Telepresence Revolution,” was commissioned by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and sponsored by AT&T.
