Qualcomm Inc. announced the Wireless Reach 3G Connected Computer Classroom Project in Gansu province in conjunction with the Overseas Chinese Affairs Officeof the State Council, the Chinese Language and Cultural Education Foundation and China Telecom’s Gansu Bureau Linxia Branch. The project, which is being developed through Qualcomm’s Wireless Reach initiative, will use China Telecom’s 3G EV-DO network to connect seven computer classrooms that include computers, EV-DO cards, software and Internet service.
Wirefly.com, an online retailer of cell phones and plans, launched its Refer A Friend program that offers cash rewards when customer tell their friends about the company. Customers can earn $25 every time they refer a friend that purchases a phone or plan. The friend also is entitled to receive $25 off his order.
Glu Mobile Inc. said its Gun Bros social mobile game has surpassed 2.8 million downloads only two months after its release. “The social aspect of Gun Bros paired with its availability on numerous devices continues to fuel the growing popularity of this title,” said Giancarlo Mori, chief creative officer at Glu. “The success of Gun Bros shows that consumers have embraced social mobile gaming and desire games that connect them with friends.”
mFoundry said it launched a multimode mobile banking solution with Washington Trust Bank. The deal gives Washington Trust customers access to mobile banking solutions that use text, mobile Web and mobile applications.
Telegent Systems launched its fourth-generation TLG1123 analog mobile TV receiver. The product improves TV picture quality and contributes to reduced size and power consumption, said the company.
Sprint said it won Frost & Sullivan’s 2010 North American Customer Value Enhancement of the Year Award in On-Deck Mobile Advertising. The award recognizes Sprint’s opt-out service that gives customers control over targeted ads they receive. Sprint also announced a partnership with social network Gowalla that gives users the chance to win a Samsung Epic 4G smartphone and six months of free service for ‘checking in’ at locations around Manhattan.
PCTel launched its SeeHawk product, which provides mobile network drive test data collection and analysis. The company said the product address for multitechnology mobile networks, including LTE.
