Through twitter and press releases, José María Álvarez-Pallete announced that Telefonica is donating 4550 million Colombian Pesos (about $2.3 million USD) to victims in Colombia. The floods in Colombia were caused by heavy rains and the rupture of the Canal del Dique, a major canal in Colombia. Some of the donated funds are going directly to Telefonica employees affected by the floods and to the Proniños program. Telefonica has also pledged to restore communication lines in the affected area and provide free communication services to help with aid.
