BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd.’s (CHU) parent company will this month introduce a cheaper service plan for post-paid third-generation mobile subscribers in China, who could pay as little as CNY46 a month for 3G services, the parent said on its website.
The new price plan is aimed at lowering the threshold for 3G services, China United Network Communications Group Co. said in a statement Tuesday. China Unicom’s customer service line said the lowest available price plan currently is CNY66 a month.
China Unicom, which offers Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPhone in China, is competing with China Mobile Ltd. (CHL) and China Telecom Corp. (CHA) to add more subscribers to their 3G services, which are more expensive than second-generation services but offer faster data speeds.
