Looking to add a little enticement to customers weary of their current mobile provider, Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) is offering a further $50 incentive to customers that port over the carrier from one of its rivals.
The offer, which was launched on Nov. 19 an runs through Nov. 25, requires customers to activate a new line of service with a two-year contract to receive the discount. Customers are still eligible for the regular device subsidies afforded to new customers.
The promotion could be a move by the carrier to stem customer losses that continue to flock from Sprint Nextel’s iDEN operations. The carrier noted during the third quarter that a net gain of 276,000 postpaid CDMA customers was offset by the loss of 383,000 customers from its postpaid iDEN service.
The move also comes just ahead of the increasingly competitive holiday shopping season that is set to kick off with Black Friday on Nov. 26.
