HOLLYWOOD, Fla.—KGI Wireless added 11,500 McDonald’s Corp. rooftop sites to its managed tower portfolio, according to founder and principal Michael Kampen, who talked to RCR Wireless News at PCIA’s Wireless Infrastructure 2010 show here.
Rooftops are becoming more important for operators as they try to bring coverage closer to the end user, building their networks for capacity as well as coverage. Kampen said the McDonald’s sites are located throughout the United States. KGI was founded in 1997 and brings the McDonald’s assets to its portfolio of 20,000 sites covering 80% of market markets in 9,000 cities. The company markets and licesnes land, building and tower assets for Allied Wireless Communications, Charter Communications, Mediacom Communications, McDonald’s, the National Cable Television Cooperative, Telecom Tower, Time Warner Cable and Verizon Wireless.
The McDonald’s facilities are available subject to McDonald’s approvals and necessary permits.
