Seven mobile content companies settle class actions

Without admitting wrongdoing, seven mobile-content companies have settled a series of class-action lawsuits in a circuit court in Chicago.
Flycell Inc., Glomobi, Mobilefunster Inc., Thumbplay Inc., WebAMG Holdings, Glispa L.L.C. and Motricity Inc. were accused of charging wireless subscribers for content without clear authorization. As outlined in the settlement, the companies will collectively fund $9 million in settlement claims and up to $1.85 million in attorney fees.
The settlement entitles any person in the United States and its territories to a one-time cash award of $10 or a refund of up to three months of content subscription charges. The claim must include one of the involved companies and any unauthorized content charge that occurred prior to Aug. 27, 2010. The mobile content under dispute includes ringtones, games, graphics, news and other alerts associated with an automatic charge to customers’ mobile phone bills.
