Alliances: TeleNav powers U.S. Cellular service; IPWireless teams with Altair; and more

U.S. Cellular (USM) launched its Your Navigation Deluxe navigation service, which is powered by TeleNav (TNAV). The service includes voice-guided turn-by-turn 3D GPS navigation, speech recognition, business listings, real-time traffic alerts and one-touch rerouting, weather updates and online trip planning.
Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) said it has been chosen by Measat Broadcast Network Systems, a pay TV operator in Malaysia, to provide an end-to-end multimedia solution to support a new television service optimized for smartphones in the country. Alcatel-Lucent has deployed a multi-screen solution to enhance Measat’s Astro B.player smartphone service, which allows its customers to view premium services like live TV and video on demand on their smart devices.
WAUSAU Financial Systems and Mitek Systems Inc. entered an OEM agreement that allows WAUSAU to offer Mitek’s mobile Remote Deposit Capture capabilities to financial institutions. The offering will allow customers to deposit checks via camera-equipped smartphones.
IPWireless said it has teamed up with Altair Semiconductor to develop a suite of multi-band LTE modem products. The partnership calls for the integration of Altair’s software-defined radio baseband processor into IPWireless’ LTE devices. Initial products will support 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2.5 GHz deployments, with future products addressing the entire 700 MHz and AWS frequency bands, said the companies. Commercial availability is expected by the end of the year.
Sagem Wireless and ST-Ericsson announced they have partnered to develop multimode LTE/HSPA+ reference designs, devices and modules. The companies are working together on a multimode platform, which can connect to LTE, HSPA+, 3G and GMS networks, to develop a mobile broadband modem they hope to launch by the end of this year.
Handmark said it is working with the Audit Bureau of Circulation‘s interactive unit to provide detailed, audited mobile usage statistics for publishers and advertisers.
TRaC Telecoms and Radio, a testing and compliance consulting firm, said it has reaffirmed its relationship with Motorola Inc. TRaC uses Motorola’s NBBS remote device software device management platform to test customer premises equipment.
