HP eyes up tablet storm with WebOS based Hurricane

HP and Palm are brewing up a storm in the form of a WebOS tablet codenamed “Hurricane,” which could be a slightly re-invented version of the thought-to-be-dead HP Slate, shelved after its brief appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) back in January.
Back in April, HP coughed up $1.2 billion to buy flailing, failing Palm, a deal finally finalized just a couple of days ago. It seems, however, that tablets and time waits for no man, and HP is eager to bring forth the fruits of its acquisition as soon as possible.

The HP slate was originally set to run with Microsoft’s Windows 7 tablet version, but the Redmond software giant has now been unceremoniously dumped in favor of the more fashionable, mobile flavored WebOS offering.
HP is not going to stop at tablets, either. The firm has confirmed it plans to launch a plethora of Palm infused products, including smartphones, netbooks and even PCs.
“Palm will be responsible for webOS software development and webOS based hardware products, from a robust smartphone roadmap to future slate PCs and netbooks,” reads the official release.
Looks like developers may have to start making WebOS apps once again.
Rahul Sood, tech guru, former owner of Voodoo PC and now CTO for HP’s gaming business unit, wrote in his blog “the deal is closed, rest assured you will see WebOS live across a number of new devices, I just can’t wait to get my hands on some of the cool new stuff. No more covert BS, you will likely see more news around about HP and Palm, stay tuned and keep searching Google.”
