Capital Markets: BlackBerry Fund expands in China, Transpera completes funding, and more

The BlackBerry Partners Fund, an independent venture capital firm that works in collaboration with Research In Motion, said it has expanded its investment activities in China with the launch of a $100 million affiliate fund focused on mobile investment opportunities in the country. BlackBerry Partners Fund China is a joint venture between China Broadband Capital Partners and BlackBerry Partners Fund.

Transpera said it completed its third round of funding, which totaled $9 million. BlackBerry Partners Fund led the round, which also included existing investors Flybridge Capital Partners, First Round Capital, Intel Capital and Labrador Ventures. Transpera said it will use the funds to continue development of its mobile video advertising solutions.

Nortel Networks Corp. said it completed the sale of its Carrier VoIP and Applications Solutions business to Genband US L.L.C. The net purchase price for the assets was $182 million.

Mentum, which provides wireless access and backhaul network planning and optimization solutions, completed its acquisition of Ascom’s network planning business.
