Editor’s Note: The list below is a wrap up of first quarter 2010 results for the nation’s largest facilities-based and public wireless carriers. The results are from the carriers’ quarterly reports and include all customers on their networks, including network partners.
Verizon Wireless continues to lead the industry in total customers with more than 92 million subscribers on its network. AT&T Mobility posted the most growth during the first quarter, but remains behind its larger rival in the No. 2 position. The remaining two nationwide operators, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA, both posted net customer losses for the quarter, emphasizing the highly competitive nature of the market.
MetroPCS and Leap/Cricket both posted strong growth for the quarter highlighting increased consumer acceptance of their flat-rate, unlimited calling plans as well as typical seasonality.
