Indonesia’s Smart Telecom said it deployed the world’s first commercial CDMA-EVDO Revision B network, using equipment from ZTE Corp. and Qualcomm Inc.
The Rev. B network will be deployed in Bali Densapar in the first quarter, and is set to be deployed in all of Indonesia’s major cities by the end of the year. EV-DO Rev. B triples the peak broadband data rates of the existing network with a software upgrade (known as Multicarrier EV-DO) and carrier aggregation techniques, enabling Internet access at 9.3 Mbps in the downlink and 5.4 Mbps in the uplink. Smart Telecom said it plans to further increase the network’s peak downlink speed to 14.7 Mbps later this year.
Smart Telecom is charging $45 per month for unlimited broadband services and customers who sign a one-year contract get a Rev. B USB modem for free.
