Matt Carter is moving from his position at Boost Mobile’s president to take over Sprint Nextel Corp.’s fourth-generation rollout. The move comes amid Sprint’s acquisition of Virgin Mobile USA Inc.’s prepaid business, which the nation’s third-largest carrier closed on earlier this month.
“Matt Carter has led Boost Mobile prepaid service to unprecedented growth in the last year, and he has the executive and marketing skills to maximize Sprint’s industry leadership in 4G,” said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. Carter joined Sprint in 2006 as Senior Vice President for base management, before taking the position at Boost in 2008. The new position becomes effective Jan. 11.
When Sprint originally announced plans to buy Virgin for $483 million, Carter was to continue leading Boost Mobile efforts and report to Virgin Mobile USA President Dan Schulman. In the press announcement today, Sprint Nextel said the rest of the Boost team will now report to Shulman.
