Nokia Siemens Networks said it was establishing a “center of competence” in Dallas dedicated to developing LTE for the North American market. The center is expected to employ approximately 500 people, including current Nokia Siemens workers and new hires.
To further show its support for the LTE market in North America, Nokia Siemens said that Sue Spradley, leader of its North American region, would join the company’s executive board.
NSN was selected by Verizon Wireless to supply IP Multi-Media Subsystem equipment for the carrier’s planned LTE network that is expected to launch in a pair of markets later this year and cover 100 million potential customers in 30 markets by the end of 2010. NSN rivals L.M. Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent garnered a majority share of the network’s infrastructure contact.
