A Redmond, Wash.-based newcomer, MobUI said it raised an unspecified amount in a round of funding led by GlobalNET Mobile Solutions, a Latin American wireless services provider. The startup – which was founded by former Action Engine employees – used part of the funds to buy the former on-device portal company, which closed its doors several weeks ago.
Terms of the acquisition were undisclosed.
MobUI hopes to gain traction by helping content companies build downloadable and Web-based applications for wireless devices quickly. The company already has deals with “three major consumer brands” that will be announced as their applications come to market.
“We founded MobUI because content companies have a need for speed in the mobile application development process,” said MobUI CEO and founder John Burry. “We are here to build the mobile experiences that consumers desire in the timeframes the top content companies demand.”
