Cellphoners to dial into latest Stephen King yarn

Stephen King fans can check out the author’s latest work on their phones through a deal between Marvel Entertainment, CBS Mobile and Simon & Schuster subsidiary Scribner.
The companies have teamed to produce 25 original video episodes based on “N,” a previously unpublished story that will be available online and through network operators. The two-minute episodes, which can be previewed here, will be available in five-block episodes for $1 beginning next week.
King fans can also buy access to the series for $4 during the promotion, which ends Aug. 28. “N” will be included in an upcoming collection of the author’s short stories as well a comic-book miniseries by Marvel set for release next year.
“I’m always interested in new delivery systems for stories and always curious about how those systems work with the old storytelling verities,” King said in a prepared statement. “This one, it seems to me, works extraordinarily well.”
Scribner two years ago sent text messages to 100,000 mobile users to support King’s last novel, “Cell,” in which a pulse sent through cellphones randomly transforms people into rampaging killers.
