The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Ireland: Ericsson said it won a contract with Meteor Mobile Communications to supply a W-CDMA/HSPA network including microwave transmission equipment.
–Romania: Zapp selected ZTE to roll out a W-CDMA/HSDPA network.
WiMAX
–Taiwan: Tatung InfoComm chose Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a commercial WiMAX network using 802.16-2005 Rev. E technology in Penghu County.
Miscellaneous
–Ireland: A consortium of Eircom, Motorola and TETRA Ireland have been chosen to deploy a nationwide TETRA system in Ireland. The eight-year ‘build-own-operate’ contract will initially cover Dublin, with the entire nationwide rollout scheduled to be completed within two years.
