Digital entertainment firm CinemaNow Inc. is teaming with uVuMobile to allow consumers to use their phones to order full-length films for viewing on other platforms.
Movie fans with Web-enabled phones can visit CinemaNow’s mobile site to preview trailers from the company’s library of 10,000 films, TV shows and music video shows. Users can purchase movies over the phone and download them to any of CinemaNow’s Media Manager-enabled devices including PCs, digital television sets, portable media players, set-top boxes and network-attached storage devices.
The new WAP service couples uVuMobile’s media distribution platform with CinemaNow’s proprietary digital distribution technology. The companies have said they hope to offer downloads directly to mobile phones as early as next year.
“As Internet-enabled phones rise in popularity, companies need to keep pace with innovation, offering solutions which leverage that feature,” said CinemaNow COO David Cook. “This partnership with uVuMobile has helped CinemaNow pioneer another first-to-market digital distribution method that we expect will make a tremendous difference in the industry by giving customers access to movies any time, anywhere.”
