Alcatel-Lucent uses Sierra modules in enterprise laptops

Alcatel-Lucent has tapped Sierra Wireless to supply embedded modules for the infrastructure vendor’s wireless laptop security, management and tracking system called the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian (NLG).
Sierra Wireless components embedded in the NLG will provide high-speed access to mobile broadband networks, the company announced.
Alcatel-Lucent’s NLG wireless platform enables I.T. staff to remotely protect sensitive data on employees’ mobile laptops anytime, anywhere and even when the laptop is powered off or in the event of loss or theft, the company said.
“Alcatel-Lucent recognizes security begins at the user level. Using Sierra Wireless embedded modules for access to laptops through the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, enables I.T. departments to better manage the expanding mobile workforce,” said Dor Skuler, general manager for Alcatel-Lucent’s enterprise mobile security solutions.
“As more employees become mobile, enterprises are understandably concerned with sensitive information carried on laptops, and the growing ubiquity of cellular data coverage makes it a practical tool to employ in addressing these concerns,” said Dan Schieler, senior VP of sales at Sierra Wireless.
