Alcatel-Lucent unveiled what it termed the industry’s first mobile network management solution that provides network operators with a view of the traffic flowing over their networks, and thus greater control over IP-based applications.
Alcatel-Lucent noted the 9900 Wireless Network Guardian is composed of two network elements, a wireless network detector for deployment in a data center and a wireless network center for deployment in a network or security operations center. Once deployed, the platform monitors network traffic at a “granular” level, according to the company, and can identify anomalous activities that could cause disruption to general network operations. The company also noted the 9900 WNG can help wireless carriers detect denial of service attacks targeting the signaling layer.
Alcatel-Lucent added that Canadian operator Bell Mobility was the first carrier to trial the platform in a live commercial network.
