Mobile content company Handmark Inc. will bulk up its game library with the acquisition of Astraware Ltd., a U.K.-based game studio, for an undisclosed sum.
Handmark, a Kansas City, Mo.-based firm, develops and distributes enterprise and entertainment applications for BlackBerry devices and other smartphones. Astraware develops casual games for Windows Mobile- and Palm OS-enabled devices; the company’s portfolio includes Sudoku, Bejeweled and Zuma.
“We recognize the genius of the mobile gaming pioneers who created Astraware and welcome them to the Handmark family,” said Paul Reddick, a former Sprint Nextel Corp. executive who now serves as Handmark’s CEO. “We share a passion for delivering superior mobile experiences.”
The deal is expected to close by the end of the month.
