Juniper Research released a new report that predicts Mobile WiMAX will attract 80 million subscribers within five years, assuming devices and differentiated services are available.
The firm said Mobile WiMAX 8012.16e will start to see growth between 2010 and 2013, and will reach the 80 million subscriber mark worldwide by 2013. In addition, Juniper predicts the mobile WiMAX market will exceed $23 billion per year by 2013.
“We are seeing more and more Mobile WiMAX 802.16e trials and network contracts — over 50 have been announced so far in 2007 alone: the market is very active in all regions of the world,” said report author Howard Wilcox. “We anticipate that mobile usage will develop after initial demand for fixed and portable services –WiMAX 802.16e is a flexible platform that can operate in all three modes of usage.”
Juniper predicts top three markets for Mobile WiMAX will be U.S., Japan and South Korea.
