AT&T Mobility announced it completed its acquisition of Easterbrooke Cellular Corp., a rural wireless carrier with services in West Virginia operating under the Cellular One brand. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The transaction included licenses, network assets and more than 19,000 subscribers, according to AT&T Mobility. The company said the acquisition will beef up its coverage in areas of West Virginia.
AT&T Mobility said it will begin offering its full lineup of products and services to the former Easterbrooke subscribers by March. Additionally, the carrier said former Easterbrooke customers will be able to migrate to AT&T Mobility rate plans without incurring upgrade fees.
AT&T Inc.’s stock was up slightly following the news to around $41.61 per share.
The deal is just the latest in a long string of mash-ups among the nation’s wireless carriers. Indeed, AT&T Mobility recently finished its acquisition of Dobson Communication Corp., while Verizon Wireless is in the process of scooping up Rural Cellular Corp. and T-Mobile USA Inc. is acquiring SunCom Wireless Holdings Inc.
