Remember the disposable phone? If you answer yes, you’re showing your age-they popped up and seemed to disappear a decade ago. But Hop-On Inc., “best known as the inventor of the disposable mobile phone,” as the company reminds readers its recent press release, is bringing the disposable back.
The stated reason: Verizon Wireless will open its CDMA network to any handset that meets minimum technical requirements. Hop-On said today its disposable phone-dubbed The Graffiti-would become available for under $50.
“The stylish disposable phone is ideal for teens, seniors, tourists, vacationers, business travelers and people with credit challenges,” Hop-On declared in a press release today. “Now that Verizon will be opening their network to other devices, the market for our low-price, high-quality phones will increase dramatically.”
The Graffiti will be marketed through Hop-On’s subsidiary, Graffiti Wireless.
Hop-On transitioned from a disposable handset company to a wireless handset and accessories distributor in 2004-2005, and recently has been pursuing mobile gambling and SMS-based wagering.
