AT&T Mobility announced a new international service plan for the Apple Inc. iPhone, an announcement that comes on the heels of efforts by software hackers to unlock the device.
Unlocking software allows iPhone users to install Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards from other operators, thereby paying local rates while traveling.
AT&T Mobility said that for $60 per month-in addition to the domestic voice and data plan-iPhone customers can get international voice and data roaming in 29 countries, along with international long distance dialing from the U.S. at standard rates. The international plan, which includes 50 megabytes of data use for activities such as Web browsing and e-mail access, is only available in conjunction with a domestic plan, not as a stand-alone plan.
