Although younger users are at the forefront of mobile adoption, new research from InsightExpress found that Baby Boomers are actively embracing wireless too.
In a new survey, the firm found that about 80% of all Americans said they own a mobile phone, and that wireless subscribers were spread relatively evenly across all age groups. Among Americans aged 18-24, around 85% said they owned a cellphone. And though penetration levels dropped slightly among older survey respondents-82% of the 25-44 age group owned a cellphone, while 80% of the 45-54 age group claimed a phone-fully 79% of Americans between the ages of 55 and 64 said they own a phone.
Further, Baby Boomers said they use data and messaging features at rates comparable to younger wireless subscribers. Although the under-24 crowd uses text messaging services more often than their elders, around 16% of survey respondents aged 45-54 said they use such features, while 10% of wireless users between 55 and 64 years old said they send text messages daily, said InsightExpress.
