Wireless carriers spent 4% more on their networks during the second quarter than they did during the same quarter last year, according to research from analyst firm Ovum-RHK.
Wireless carriers spent $5.3 billion during the quarter, said Ovum. Wireline operators, on the other hand, spent 2% less than they did during the previous second quarter, said the firm. The study also found mobile revenues grew 12% to $36.7 billion during the quarter while fixed revenue remained flat at $43.6 billion.
North American wireline capital spending in the first half is down nearly 7% from last year, due largely to AT&T Inc. spending cuts resulting from its acquisition of BellSouth Corp.
