Working Assets launches left-leaning Democracy Wireless MVNO

Working Assets launched its latest cause-oriented mobile virtual network operator, teaming with the left-leaning People For the American Way to launch Democracy Wireless.
The MVNO provides service through Sprint Nextel Corp.’s network and is marketed as an alternative to “other cellphone providers that contribute to right-wing politicians.” Democracy Wireless includes “free speech” calls of up to 30 minutes a month to the White House at no additional charge, and a portion of all monthly charges are donated to support People For the American Way Foundation’s work.
“You can help us change the world, one phone call at a time,” said Ralph Neas, president of People For the American Way Foundation, in a prepared statement.
Working Assets operates MVNOs for liberal and watchdog organizations including Greenpeace, Human Rights Watch, the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood.
