AT&T Mobility offers contact-backup service

AT&T Mobility released a downloadable application that serves as a locker for contact information on mobile phones.
The service, which is offered at $2 per month, allows users to add new contacts and edit information on an AT&T Mobility Web page, and includes an automatic backup option that can update data daily or weekly. AT&T Mobile Backup can import contacts from Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo and AOL, and send the information to the user’s phone.
The offering is powered by Asurion and is supported by a half-dozen Motorola Inc. devices including the V365, SLVR L7, KRZR K1 and three RAZR models.
“Most people have contact information on their wireless devices that they do not have stored anywhere else,” said Carlton Hill, vice president of voice products and devices for AT&T Mobility. “Because of this, we are excited to offer a secure backup option to protect this important information.”
AT&T Mobility is the latest to offer a contact-backup service. Alltel Corp., Virgin Mobile USA L.L.C., Sprint Nextel Corp., Verizon Wireless and others already offer the service, for similar prices.
