Communications service provider XO Communications Inc. announced a major expansion of its broadband wireless footprint.
XO and its subsidiary Nextlink Wireless Inc. said they had deployed in an additional 25 metropolitan areas across the country; Nextlink provides last-mile and middle-mile network access for wireless and wireline telecom operators for services such as metro Ethernet and private-line access, wireless backhaul and network resiliency. The new markets bring Nextlink’s total number of markets to 37, and the company owns licensed wireless spectrum in 75 metro markets.
The deployment includes large markets in Ohio, California, Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Tennessee and Massachusetts, among others and substantially expands the company’s reach. Robert Beran, president and CEO of Nextlink, claimed that the company “now operates the nation’s largest broadband wireless access network in the U.S.” He added that the company “can now offer our customers and reseller partners access to more than 5 million business locations with a wide range of scalable bandwidth options.”
