The following lists includes venture capital and other investments into wireless companies announced this week.
–Brightstar: Lindsay Goldberg, a New York-based investment partnership, invested $283 million in Brightstar Corp. The equity financing makes Lindsay Goldberg the company’s largest shareholder behind its founder, Marcelo Claure. Brightstar said the investment will allow it to fund its continued global expansion.
–Celona: Caledonia Investment plc invested nearly $14.2 million in Celona Technologies as part of the company’s Series B funding round. The company provides application data migration software designed for communications services providers. As part of the investment, Caledonia’s Jamie Cayzer-Colvin and Mathew Masters will join the company’s board of directors. Celona said it will use the funds to build its customer-facing sales and support activities.
–Tira: Several companies invested $5 million in Tira Wireless, which the company said it will use to expand its reach beyond mobile entertainment. Existing investors Lehman Brothers Venture Partners, Brightspark Ventures, Flagship Ventures and Export Development Canada all participated in the funding.
