Frontline Wireless is hoping to add some more lobbying muscle with the addition of former Federal Communications Commission chief Mark Fowler.
The Greensboro, N.C.-based firm has called for the FCC to license a bock of 700 MHz commercial spectrum for an open-access broadband network for use by both commercial and public-safety agencies. Fowler, who headed the FCC under President Reagan, will serve as founding partner and investor in Frontline.
Fowler joins Frontline Vice Chairman Reed Hundt, who led the FCC under President Clinton.
“The Frontline proposal is powerful,” Fowler said. “It solves the public safety problem with a private-sector solution. Using best-of-breed sector capital sources, strategic partners, technologies and executive talent, Frontline will build a state-of-the-art national wireless network for public safety.”
