XO to launch in Seattle

XO Communications launched wireless broadband service today in Seattle, bringing the number of major metropolitan areas it covers to 11.
XO said it will deliver the service through affiliated company Nextlink Wireless Inc., which owns local multipoint distribution system spectrum in 75 metro markets. XO said that its wireless broadband service deliver speeds between 10 megabits per second to 155 mbps to support metro Ethernet, voice over IP services, high-speed dedicated Internet access, network redundancy or networks for campuses or business parks.
“This expansion of our network is part of our continuing focus to provide businesses with innovative high-speed network services and alternatives in the wake of a consolidating telecommunications industry,” said Paul Merritt, XO’s general manager for the Seattle market.
The coverage is initially available in downtown Seattle, XO said, and the company has the ability to add hubs that will reach across the Seattle metro area to include Bellevue, Kenmore, Lynnwood, Redmond and Renton, as well as Kirkland-the home of wireless broadband provider Clearwire Corp.
