Towerstream Corp. launched a fixed WiMAX network in Miami, to provide businesses there with broadband data services.
The company’s first point-of-presence is the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami. The network is the eighth such installation from the company, which also provides fixed WiMAX service in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, San Francisco and Providence/Newport, R.I..
“Our entry into this market further validates our business model to dramatically increase our coverage area and revenue potential,” said Jeff Thompson, Towerstream’s CEO. He added that the company planned to continue its expansion into other large U.S. cities.
Towerstream said that customers in Miami will be able to choose among T1, T3, 100 and 1,000 megabit per second connections, and that the wireless broadband network can support a range of services including VoIP, bandwidth on demand, wireless redundancy, VPNs, disaster recovery, bundled data and video services. Companies also have the option to “prioritize their bandwidth to secure mission-critical activities” if they are using the network for multiple applications simultaneously.
