Bell Mobility announced it will offer full-length, pay-per-view movies for video-capable mobile phones. The service, Mobile Movies, streams movies directly to the user’s handset over Bell’s wireless high-speed network.
The movie software application, which is available for download, allows the user to browse movie information, including trailers and plot summaries, before they choose a title, the company said. The software also features DVD-like playback controls. Movies will be available from major distributors like Buena Vista International Television and Sony Pictures Television International. The library will include genres such as action, comedy, drama and horror. Mobile Movies will start at $6 and will require a subscription to unlimited mobile browsing or another similar bundle.
“Bell Mobility clients across the country can now have full-length feature films at their fingertips. It’s a Canadian first and we’re happy to be leading the way,” Bell Mobility President Wade Oosterman said.
The offering comes from application vendor mSpot, which powers a similar application for Sprint Nextel Corp.
