Bar-code scanning company Nextcode Corp. announced a deal with Philippine wireless provider Smart Communications Inc.
The deal is Nextcode’s first with a carrier. The company’s ConnexTo carrier platform provides software that allows camera phones to read bar codes, and gives carriers the ability to create and manage bar-code-based programs for mobile marketing, content and promotional purposes. According to Nextcode, its technology operates on standard camera phones “without requiring modification to the phone hardware or optics.”
“The code scanning platform that Nextcode provides significantly enhances our ability to bring innovative new services to our customers,” said Napoleon Nazareno, Smart’s president and CEO.
Smart Communications has nearly 23 million subscribers.
