WAAT Media, Charismatix team to form Twistbox

LOS ANGELES—Mobile Entertainment company WAAT Media and mobile games developer Charismatix formed a parent company, Twistbox Entertainment Inc., which the companies said will represent the operating unit and brand for all their general entertainment activities. Within 90 days, Charismatix will be rebranded as Twistbox Games, while all adult content will remain under the WAAT subsidiary.

“We are bringing our current businesses under one overarching brand in order to continue building an internationally recognized, world-class mobile media company,” said Ian Aaron, who becomes chief executive of Twistbox and its subsidiaries. “The new entity will leverage our seven years of experience in mobile content publishing and game development.”

Aaron pointed out that Twistbox’ portfolio includes more than 400 mobile WAP sites, 50 mobile TV channels and 160 games deployed across 90 carriers in 16 languages.

In addition, Twistbox raised $12.75 million in a round of funding led by Boston-based Spark Capital. The funds will be used to accelerate the development of its general entertainment category, expand distribution in Asia and explore possible acquisition targets.

“While we have seen numerous mobile investment opportunities, Twistbox was a standout,” commented Dennis Miller, general partner at Spark Capital. “With its proven platform, global distribution and staple of leading brands, it is positioned to take the mobile entertainment market by storm.”
