RFS

Radio Frequency Systems said it plans to demonstrate a fast bit-rate remote radio head unit that permits fiber connectivity direct to the towertop at CTIA Wireless 2006. The RHH system permits base transmitter station to antenna separation distances of up to 10 miles, which the company said allows the BTS to be located in more easily acquired sites, remote from the mast and radio head/antenna assembly. The product is compliant with the open base station architecture initiative RP3-01 interface definition. Commercial launch of the system is planned for next year. RFS also plans to unveil a WiMAX-ready adaptive antenna system at the show. The new RFS W4A series antenna system features precision beam-pattern shaping and provides network managers a tool to ensure optimal data throughput and a reduction in overall cell-to-cell interference across WiMAX networks, said the company. Commercial launch of the product is slated for the second half of this year.

Trimble

Trimble introduced its TrimTrac 1.5 locator lightweight asset-monitoring device. The product supports all GSM frequencies to take advantage of GPRS data rate plans and the roaming capability of short message service messaging, said the company. TrimTrac 1.5 automatically selects GPRS wherever service is available, but relies on SMS as a backup outside GPRS coverage. Product options include plug-in modules plus a miniature external GPS antenna. The product is expected to be available in limited volumes during the second quarter. www.trimble.com

Alvarion

Alvarion Ltd. extended its BreezeMAX solution to 3.6 GHz with the introduction of its BreezeMAX 3600. The solution operates from 3.6 GHz to 3.8 GHz and is targeted at fixed WiMAX operators in Europe and other countries, said the company. The product is in field trials and is expected to be commercially available in the second quarter.

Motorola

Motorola Inc. announced its Multi-Net Mobility mobile virtual private network solution that is designed to deliver secure connectivity, session persistence and intelligent routing while wireless users are roaming. The product is based on standard Mobile IP protocol. It provides end-to-end data encryption for text, image and video applications while operating across a variety of public and private networks, including the company’s MOTOMESH multiradio broadband wireless network, 802.11 Wi-Fi and public carrier networks.

Psion Teklogix

Psion Teklogix launched its Mobile Control Center, a device management software product that enables IT administrators to centrally manage all mobile devices in a company’s warehouse or in the field. The product uses a single management console that allows administrators to control and monitor devices, generate activity and asset reports, distribute or update software on devices, configure applications and devices, remotely control devices, and troubleshoot and correct problems. The product is scheduled to be available in April.

Wavesat/Sanmina-SCI

WiMAX chip developer Wavesat and Sanmina-SCI, an electronics manufacturing services company, said they have signed an agreement to produce a WiMAX Mini-PCI module. The small-form-factor WiMAX 3.5 GHz Mini-PCI modules are available for volume delivery. The modules are based on Wavesat’s WiMAX 3.5 GHz Mini-PC reference design and includes Wavesat’s Evolutive DM256 chipset and MAC coprocessor. The WiMAX Mini-PCI modules are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard, are upgradeable to 802.16e-2005 for basic mobility applications, and support TDD and HFDD, 3.5 and 7.0 MHz bandwidths and modulation up to 64-QAM.

Metrico

Metrico Wireless plans to commercially release its Metrico Wireless Muse, which is an end-to-end voice quality testing system for mobile handsets. The company said the product can be adapted to support any commercially available mobile handset and can be used as an add-on application running side-by-side with most radio-frequency field measurement products. The system provides real-time voice quality scores using the PESQ voice quality algorithm. Scores are collected and stored together with GPS time and location information.
