Phone Monocle rescues subscribers from tiny cell-phone screens

LA CRESCENTA, Calif.-Magnific’s Inc. said it has created a magnifying glass-like product that fits onto cellular phone displays.

The Phone Monocle, which Magnific claims magnifies screen characters up to two times, is designed for phone users who are over 40 years old, those who have had Lasik vision-correction surgery, or those who are visually impaired.

The company noted the product was developed in 2003 and can also be used with other handheld devices such as Apple Computer Inc.’s iPods, home phones and medical devices like insulin pumps.

Magnific said the Phone Monocle fits handset models that have a diameter of between 4 inches and 5.75 inches. It says the product can be used with devices from Audiovox Communications Corp., Kyocera Corp., Motorola Inc., Nokia Corp., Panasonic, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Siemens AG and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P.
