Mobile Media Co. buys wireless game-maker Overloaded

OSLO, Norway-The Mobile Media Co. said it has acquired Dutch game-maker Overloaded Pocket Media from Endemol N.V.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Overloaded develops and publishes wireless games for Java, Symbian, BREW and i-mode platforms, and distributes titles in 23 countries through 42 network operators as well as its own Internet portal. The Norwegian mobile entertainment company said Overloaded will continue to partner with Endemol following the acquisition.

“We’re already starting to see the growth of new, interactive, mobile-based gaming communities through the launch of next-generation networks such as 3G,” said Karsten Hauge, chief executive officer of the Mobile Media Company AS. “Mobile is critical for the future of gaming, and mobile gaming is crucial in the promotion of new revenue streams.”

Meanwhile, U.K.-based mobile entertainment publisher Mobile Streams announced a strategic alliance with TruePosition Inc.

Mobile Streams said it has inked five-year, “a multi-million dollar agreement” to manage and operate TruePosition’s ConnectID business, which offers pet-location services and tracking for children and senior citizens.

TruePosition is a subsidiary of Liberty, which acquired a 22-percent stake in Mobile Streams under terms of the deal. Mobile Streams CEO Simon Buckingham was named CEO and board member of ConnectID.

“The ConnectID agreement is also another exciting step in our growth,” said Buckingham, “and in working with Liberty and TruePosition, we see opportunities for the innovation of industry-leading mobile location commerce, television and broadcast services over time.”
