DoCoMo pushes past 20M 3G subscribers

TOKYO-Four years after NTT DoCoMo Inc. launched its 3G network-the world’s first major W-CDMA network launch-the carrier has sailed past the 20-million-subscriber mark.

DoCoMo said it reached the milestone on Dec. 29.

The carrier said it expects to tally 23.5 million 3G Foma subscribers by the end of March.

DoCoMo credited the growth to its expanding number of 3G handsets equipped with downloading, information updates and walkie-talkie communication features, as well as its extensive coverage.
